Project Description

A Place to Rest

Many people are impacted by a lack of appropriate seating when out and about. We can encourage older people to visit their local shops and restaurants by educating business owners on age friendly changes they can make – such as seating. The “take-a-seat” project rewards businesses who have undergone a short audit process by providing a portable Australian-made chair for their senior customers. Age Friendly Illawarra partnered with local Men’s Sheds to assemble these chairs. Let us know if you’d like one in your shop.

Other features of an age-friendly business include:

  • Access for mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walking frames

  • Good lighting and soft music

  • Helpful and trained staff

  • Phone orders and home delivery

  • Access to public toilets
